Brentwood Issues Ban on Open Burning Until Further Notice

burn ban

Due to the persistent heat and drought conditions in Middle Tennessee, Brentwood Fire officials are suspending issuing burn permits. The burn ban went into effect Monday, September 23 and is in effect until further notice.

This means that any open burning is prohibited until the area receives measurable rainfall. Fire Chief Brian Goss said, “unfortunately, what little rain we have received today, has made only a small impact on conditions. We would need significantly more rain before lifting the ban.”

Prolonged dry weather and frequent breezy conditions means that permit-required open burning cannot be conducted safely. Commercial businesses which use air curtain destructors under supervised, controlled environments are exempt from the ban. The City of Brentwood joins surrounding cities like Nolensville, Spring Hill and others in issuing the ban. Brentwood Fire officials will continue to monitor conditions and notify residents and businesses when the ban on burning is lifted.
