Brentwood City Manager Kirk Bednar is pleased to announce the appointment of Todd Hoppenstedt as the City’s Public Works Director. The City recently restructured the Public Works Department with former Director Jeff Donegan assuming a new role overseeing large-scale capital construction projects within the Engineering Department.
Todd Hoppenstedt brings 20+ years of maintenance, water, sales and project management experience. For nearly the past ten years, Hoppenstedt has held Operations Superintendent and Director of Public Work roles in three different villages in Illinois. Hoppenstedt is a graduate of Illinois State University with a degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology. After college, he took a job in maintenance and pursued a career in public utilities instead of law enforcement.
“It was a challenge to find the right person for this position in Brentwood. The professional experience and knowledge Todd brings to the table will no doubt allow him to be a very successful leader here for many years,” Bednar said. “I am excited about the opportunity for someone to come in and focus on day-to-day public works operations and strategically plan for the future of this very important department”, he added.
Hoppenstedt and his wife, who works as an assistant city manager for a Chicago suburb, are excited to be in Brentwood. At the Monday April 23 regular City Commission meeting, Hoppenstedt said, “Joining professional staff here in the City of Brentwood is a sign that dreams do come true. I have been looking for this opportunity, specifically here in Brentwood, for a number of years and it is proven that hard work can pay off.”
Hoppenstedt has two school age children who will be joining him later in the summer once they finish school. His first day of work was Monday, April 16, 2018.
