The Brentwood High School Bruinettes dance team traveled to Orlando, FL last weekend to compete at the NDA National Championship Competition held at Universal’s Hard Rock Live.
In their first time to compete at NDA Nationals, the team placed third in Medium Varsity Jazz as well as receiving the Superior Showmanship Award.
The team is coached by Lynzey Howell, Kirstin Hawk and Andrea Goble.
“Going to Nationals for the first time is so exciting. The girls have worked so hard and truly came together as a team,” stated Hawk. “Placing in the top three amongst such an elite talent pool was an unforgettable feeling.”
The Bruinettes’ two captains – seniors Maddie Mercurio and Hannah Mu – helped lead the 20 member team to their strong placement not only at Nationals but also in their first place finish at the State competition in November.
“I’m incredibly proud of everything our team was able to accomplish this year,” said Mercurio. “Finishing third in our first year at Nationals is something we are very excited about. It was a great way to end my final year dancing with this special team.”
Mu added, “I’ve had the most inspiring weekend getting to watch some of the best teams in the nation. Having the opportunity to compete with them is a true honor. I can’t thank my awesome coaches and team enough for this priceless experience.”
The Bruinettes also competed in the large hip hop division and were thrilled that both dances made it to the finals.
“I am so proud of all of their dedication and their passion,” shared Howell. “They worked extremely hard and to see them be rewarded was such a wonderful experience!”
Goble added, “I will never forget the moment of seeing their faces. Pure joy! Our hearts are full of love and pride for our Bruinettes dance team.”
Next up for the Bruinettes, 2018-2019 season tryouts on April 10th-12th.
