Regina Smithson was appointed as Brentwood’s next mayor Monday night at the city’s first commission meeting with newly selected members from the May 5th election.
Smithson succeeds Betsy Crossley as mayor, and the current term will be Smithson’s second time sitting in the mayor’s seat. She has also served as vice mayor for Brentwood and sits on multiple city boards. Smithson has served as a Brentwood City Commissioner since 1989.
Smithson was the only board member that expressed interest in the mayoral role.
Jill Burgin was reelected for another term as vice mayor, and members of the commission that were voted to the board in the May 5th election were sworn in by county mayor Rogers Anderson.
