City of Brentwood leaders are moving forward with plans for the fifth fire station to serve the rapidly growing southeast portion of Brentwood. City Commissioners approved plans to purchase property along Split Log Road at its October 8 regular commission meeting. The property located at 9551 Split Log Road will be purchased for $685,000.
The concept for Station 5 would be a neighborhood fire station capable of housing a single response unit and one crew. The station would dramatically improve response times to the southeast quadrant of the City including the Split Log corridor, Ravenwood High School, Smith Park, and adjacent areas. Staffing for the new station would be accommodated gradually through annual increases in personnel.
Brentwood Fire and Rescue Chief Brian Goss said, “we would like to thank our City Commissioners, City leadership, and engaged citizens for their proactive approach to providing excellent public safety services. While it will likely be a few years before dirt is turned, this station will enhance service to the southeastern quadrant of the City along the Split Log/Ragsdale and Split Log/Wilson Pike corridors for those living in Tuscany, Sonoma, Cromwell, Glen Abbey, Taramore and others, including the new Jordan Elementary School.”
The FY 2019 budget for the Capital Projects Fund includes $500,000 for the purchase of the property for Fire Station 5. The additional $200,000 needed to complete this purchase is proposed to be allocated from the $1.2 of unobligated FY 2018 excess revenue transferred to the Capital Projects Fund at the end of FY 2018. The City’s capital improvements plan does not anticipate design work on a new station to occur until FY 2023.
