Brentwood Academy X-Country Coaches Honored

Brentwood Academy is very, very good at sports.

Their boys and girls basketball teams are kicking butt. Their football team won the state championship this year and has former players about to be NFL stars. And in case you haven’t heard their boys and girls cross country teams won the state meet in November.

And now, on Wednesday when the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its second annual state-by-state High School Coach of the Year award for cross country, the Brentwood Academy girls and boys coaches won for Tennessee.

Marshall Smith won for boys in and Cathy Cheeseman for girls, and qualify for the national coach of the year award.

Winners were picked based on their teams’ performances throughout the 2015 cross country season, taking team score and placement at state, margin of victory, performance agains rankings, and individual performances into account.)

Each honoree will receive a trophy from the USTFCCCA recognizing his or her achievements.

In 2015, the BA girls team finished with a team score of 34 in the championship while second-place Baylor scored 72- a huge margin between first and second.

It also had four runners place in the top ten, including Claire Cheeseman and Meredith Helton in first and second, respectively.

The boys team was even more dominant, scoring 18 while second place Christian Brothers scored 90.

It had five out of the top ten finishers and four out of the top five- Carter Cheeseman (1st), Davis Holliday (2nd), Joshua Bell (3rd) and Michael Renner (5th).
