Brentwood Academy rolls over FRA 4-2 in Girls Soccer

Over the course of 80 minutes, the Brentwood Academy Lady Eagles and Franklin Road Academy Panthers battled through humidity, bugs and heavy rain for most of the first half. When it was all said and done, the Lady Eagles came away with a 4-2 victory at home on Thursday.

Lady Eagles captain Maycie McKay (#14) was the aggressor, leading her team with three goals, two in the second half alone.

The Panthers wasted no time in getting on the board first, four minutes in fact, before senior Courtney Manning (#21) struck in the first goal of the evening. Anna Canady (#26) assisted.

McKay, the senior forward, responded with goal number one to tie 1-1, a wide open shot assited by Katherine Tyner (#12).

Jamie Kendrick’s (#12) goal put FRA on top again but it would be the last goal for the rest of the night for the Panthers.

At the 20-minute mark, the sun disappeared and was replaced by dark clouds that brought upon a downpour, almost threatening the rest of the match for lightening concerns but the game went on. Minutes before halftime, McKay sunk in the equalizer and the score was 2-2 into the break.

As the rain settled down, Brentwood Academy clamped down on defense and cranked the pressure on FRA, controlling most of the possession throughout the rest of the second half. The Lady Eagles attacked relentlessly and McKay took the reigns and scored again in the 55th minute and assisted in the 78th minute to Tyner to secure the win.

Brentwood Academy’s next game is away at CPA on Sept. 2 at 6 pm. Franklin Road Academy’s is another on the road, against Davidson Academy on Sept. 2 at 5 pm.
