Brentwood Academy Bashes Liberty Tech

Brentwood Academy played its first game on its new field Friday night and made sure it was one to remember- and one to forget if you follow Liberty Magnet Technology football- by winning 45-7.

The Eagles put up 25 points in the first quarter, and just for good measure added another 20 in the second quarter.  Liberty’s only score came in mercy-time, after BA put in its second and third stringers.

Though Cody White, Eagles head coach, called the team still a work in progress. And Liberty was ranked 91st in the state, to BA’s 6th,  this was never expected to be close.

As White said: “We overmatched with them, and still have a lot of work to do.”

With the next five games on the road, White is right to be reserved. His team’s true character will be measured in the coming weeks on the road against conference teams, not against Liberty.

But as for this game with Liberty, the stats really say it all. Quarterback Tyler Swafford threw 18 times, and 15 of those throws were caught. Three were touchdowns. So, essentially, every time he threw was worth a point.

Wideout C.J. Sanders had 149 all-purpose yards and two scores, 78 of those on a punt return that went to the house. Running back Shawn Brashers averaged 16.8 yards a rush, going for 68 on four carries, for a touchdown. And Jacob Cretin added 60 on 14 carries.

As a team, BA had more than twice as many yards of offense- 286- as Liberty- 120. And all purpose, it was 540 to 263.

White said special teams play improved from last week.

The Eagles defense had four sacks, DL Jordan James getting 1.5.  And Eagle defensive back Chris Hopkins returned the games only interception for 14 yards.
