Brentwood’s Second Annual “A Walk in the Park” Approaches

The Citizens for Brentwood Green Space announced this week registration is now open for the second annual “A Walk in the Park” event.

This year’s event will take place on Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Marcella Vivrette Smith Park on Wilson Pike in Brentwood.

H. G. Hill Realty Company repeats as the title sponsor. A painting created especially for the event by local artist Mike Moyers will be featured in a one-day showing and silent auction.

“The upcoming ‘A Walk in the Park’ event sponsored by the Citizens for Brentwood Green Space is a great opportunity for both businesses and residents to join together to support efforts to preserve green space and enhance Smith Park,” Regina Smithson, mayor of Brentwood, said. “I’d like to encourage you to participate in this exciting event by coming out and walking on Oct. 30.”

The event is open to any individual, family, club or team and participation and is not restricted to just Brentwood or Williamson County residents. All net proceeds from the event (total funds collected minus the cost of the event) will be donated to the City of Brentwood for use towards upkeep, amenities and improvements at Marcella Vivrette Smith Park.

“A Walk in the Park is a fun activity you do with your family,” said Gil Hutchinson, president of Brentwood Green Space. “Our Walk is not a pledge walk or a competitive race; it is an opportunity to bring our community together while supporting a terrific cause – Brentwood Green Space!

“Last year we had over 200 participants join us for the inaugural event and we are excited to be bringing it back to Brentwood in 2016.”

ravenswood_hrMarketing for this year’s event features a one-of-a-kind painting of the Ravenswood Mansion by local Williamson County artist Mike Moyers. Moyers, who is known for his knife-edge style and brightly hued nature settings, agreed to provide a commemorative painting for the 2016 event.

“I was thrilled to have the opportunity to paint one of Brentwood’s oldest and most historic homes, and excited it will be the focal point of the marketing for this year’s ‘A Walk in the Park event,’” said Moyers.

In addition to the Walk, there will also be tours of Historic Ravenswood Mansion, an expanded Kid Zone and ongoing hayrides till dusk. Other event facts include:

Choose from several walking trails, including the designated short (3.1 mile or 5K) and long (6.2 mile or 10K) courses the day of the event. There will be other courses for casual walkers who just want enjoy the park.

Event sponsors will have tables at the event with information and product samples.

Early registration is $20 for adults and $10 for children and registrants who sign up by Oct. 14 will receive a commemorative t-shirt. Day-of registration is available for $30 for adults and $10 for children.

Team registration for clubs, organizations, companies, groups is welcome and encouraged.

H. G Hill Realty Company, which is completing construction on the Hill Center-Brentwood, is again the title sponsor for the event. According to Celeste Patterson, president H.G. Hill Realty Company, LLC, last year’s event “was the best exposure for this type of event that we have ever received!”

In 2015, “A Walk in the Park” raised over $12,000 for the City of Brentwood’s parks fund.

Other sponsors for “A Walk in the Park” in 2016 include United Healthcare, The Mick Foundation, H. Michael Hindman Architects, Middle Tennessee Ear, Nose & Throat, Nolensville Market Square, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Southern Oral & Facial Surgery, Nelson Mazda, Southeast Venture. This year’s media and marketing sponsors include Brentwood Home Page, Williamson Herald, YOUR Williamson Magazine, WAKM-AM radio and Harkins Marketing Advisors. Hospitality sponsors are Judge Bean’s BBQ, Papa C Pies and Liberty Party Rental.

“We are excited that Judge Bean’s BBQ and Papa C Pies have joined us as sponsors of this year’s event,” said Hutchinson. “We know our registered Walk participants will enjoy experiencing their unique foods and desserts on the day of the event.”

In addition, Brentwood-based Liberty Party Rental will be providing the tent accommodations for the day.

“The commitment from the business community has been phenomenal this year,” added Hutchinson. “We are thrilled to have some of the area’s top companies involved as sponsors.”

Nelson Mazda has joined this year as a sponsor and plans to have several automobiles at the park the day of the event.

At 400 acres, Marcella Vivrette Smith Park is Brentwood’s largest park and the “crown jewel” in the Brentwood park system. It has been conservatively estimated that over 300,000 adults and youth will participate in activities and events held at the park each year. Population within 5 miles of the park is 75,972.
