BOFT Celebrates Black History Month

On Thursday, February 7th the Battle of Franklin Trust is hosting an evening exhibition in honor of Black History Month featuring the newly discovered photographs with a presentation after from noted historian and author Rick Warwick. Photos will be unveiled at Carnton Plantation’s Fleming Center at 5 p.m. and Warwick will follow at 6 p.m. This event is free to the public.

“We are excited to offer two very special events in one evening,” said Battle of Franklin Trust COO Eric A. Jacobson. “We are very excited about the photo unveiling, and we are honored that Rick Warwick will be joining us to commemorate some of the history of Franklin’s African-American community.”

Warwick’s 45 minute presentation offers a view into the historic African-American community that developed in Franklin after the Civil War.  He will be discussing the Natchez community and Hard Bargain, and will also discuss the McLemore House. The recently discovered photos offer amazing views of the battlefield and various locations in ways that have never been seen. Some of the photos include The Carter House, the McGavock Confederate Cemetery at Carnton, and the Cleburne cenotaph. Others show sweeping views from Privet Knob, as well as new perspectives on Fort Granger.
