Bluegrass Along the Harpeth Continues Saturday

Downtown Franklin will continue to dance and sing along to folk and bluegrass music on Saturday, July 25 on the square in Franklin at the 25th annual Bluegrass Along the Harpeth event.

The event is free and open to the public with musical competitions starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning and festivities going on until about 10 p.m. Winners of competitions will receive cash prizes.

Festivities at Bluegrass Along the Harpeth include music from Bluegrass bands, old time string bands, folk soloists, clogging, buck dancing, old time Appalachian flat-foot dancing, food vendors such as Ace’s Kettle Corn, Bradley’s handmade ice cream, kabobs, gyros, an old time soda fountain and more.

Many arts and crafts vendors are on site as well during the Bluegrass Along the Harpeth festival. Things like handmade soap, painted portraits, items made from antlers, handmade jewelry and bags, pottery, candles and even Christmas wreaths are available from vendors at the event.

“It’s a networking program,” said Tommy Jackson, lifelong Franklin resident and coordinator of Bluegrass Along the Harpeth. “You might find a musician that you didn’t know lives next door and is playing over here in front of the courthouse. That’s our goal is to bring unity to Franklin.”

The event is family friendly, with no alcohol served and kids activities such as face painting available. Street performers will also be singing from locations around the square during the event.

Juice Bar is also on site with their mobile pedal-powered juice bar equipped with smoothies, salads and all kinds of healthy snacks.IMG_3206
