Bike for Brett Event Returns this Weekend

Bike for Brett with Ellen Boyer, Thalas Steele and Caroline Bryan

Last October was the first Bike for Brett event, an event in remembrance of country star Luke Bryan and wife Caroline’s niece, Sadie Brett Boyer.

This year the event returns on March 2 in Franklin. We spoke to Ellen Boyer, mother of Sadie Brett Boyer, about the event who said, “We are so excited to host our second annual Bike for Brett! March 21st is World Down Syndrome day and we’ve decided to celebrate the whole month by encouraging everyone to get out, get active, and bike.”

She continued, “We lost our daughter Brett to congenital heart disease in 2017. Brett also had Down Syndrome which we believe should be celebrated! We started the Brett Boyer Foundation in her honor to fund congenital heart disease and research and spread Down Syndrome awareness.”

Boyer is asking the community to attend the event, “We hope you will come celebrate with us if you are in the Middle Tennessee area at noon on March at Cyclebar in Cool Springs.”

But if you aren’t able to attend, Boyer says, “And if you are biking from home, tag us in your pictures #bikeforbrett.”

Steel Athletes also posted on Instagram about the upcoming event taking place on Saturday, March 2 at Cyclebar in Franklin along with a photo of Caroline Bryan, Ellen Boyer and Thalas Steele of Steel Athletes sharing details about the event.

“Did you know that March 21st (3/21) is World Down Syndrome Day!?! Why March 21st? People with Down Syndrome have 3 copies of the 21st chromosome. The Brett Boyer Foundation’s goal is to raise awareness and support our friends rocking that extra chromosome! In celebration of World Down Syndrome Day, we are celebrating the entire month of March, with an epic kickoff at CycleBar Franklin! Join us, Saturday March 2nd at 12pm as we Bike for Brett! 100% of the Proceeds go to the Brett Boyer Foundation!!!”

Reserve your bike for the event here.

Sadie Brett Boyer was born on July 8, 2016, and died on February 21, 2017, and was the daughter of Bo and Ellen Boyer. Boyer was born with Down Syndrome and suffered from a congenital heart defect.
