Battle Ground Academy was unable find enough offense to keep up with the University School of Jackson Bruins on Friday.

The Wildcats held a 10-7 lead in the second quarter, but USJ went on a 24-9 run to finish the game, ending BGA’s season by a 31-19 score.

It was the second time this season the Bruins (9-3) got the better of the Wildcats (8-4) after winning the first matchup 52-45 on Sept. 16.

The BGA defense struggled to contain the potent USJ offensive attack for most of the night. The Wildcats forced four turnovers, the Bruins racked up 427 total yards and averaged 6.4 yards per play.

Quarterback Jacob Buie and running back Campbell Carlock were the main drivers of the USJ offense.

Buie finished the game with 283 passing yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions, while Carlock rushed 27 times for 140 yards and two scores.

BGA quarterback Drew Martin finished with 253 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception, and he also added an 18-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter. His main targets were Jake Holloway and Jack Jewell, who had 79 and 71 receiving yards, respectively.

The loss ends BGA’s season in the state playoff quarterfinals.

After starting off this year with four straight wins, things looked to be heading south for the Wildcats, who lost three of their next four games.

They were able to turn it around, though, and were riding a three-game winning streak before losing Friday.
