Bears Fight Off Wildcats in Upset at BGA

Battle Ground Academy (5-1, 0-1)  lost its first game of the year on Friday night.

The rain and the 17-7 loss to Division II-A rival Davidson put a damper on the BGA homecoming, as the high-powered Wildcat offense struggled to overcome 6 turnovers.

Turnovers Hold BGA Back in Upset

Davidson (4-1, 1-0) ran for more than 200 yards on the ground and 2 touchdowns against BGA, pulling out to a 10-0 lead in the first half.

The game, cold and wet, started off slowly. Davidson managed a first quarter field goal. In the second quarter, Zach Swinea scored for the Bears.

BGA put together a quick scoring drive in response, when Clayton Beathard found Patrick Wells for a 41-yard touchdown. BGA trailed 10-7 going into half.

In the third Davidson quarterback Kyle Gilbert ran in a score, putting the Bears up 17-7. BGA could not respond and the Bears pulled off the upset.

Beathard finished 15 for 42 for 203 yards, a touchdown and 3 interceptions. Joseph Pasley led the Wildcats running, with 76 yards on 15 carries. Wells caught 4 passes for 85 yards and the lone BGA touchdown.

Davidson rushed for 214 yards to 86 for the Wildcats.

Caitlin Musgrove was elected homecoming queen for BGA.

Next week the Wildcats will try to get back on track, when they go to Webb (1-3) in another Division II-A game.
