Battle Ground Academy’s Briston Bennett rushed 14 times for 111 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Wildcats past Webb School of Knoxville, 30-10, in the TSSAA Division II Class AAA state playoffs in Friday night’s quarterfinal round.
The Wildcats’ outstanding defense held Webb to 150 total yards and nine first downs. Teddy Holloway had 9 1/2 tackles, two for loss, while Chico Bennett Jr. had four stops, including a sack and a half and another tackle for loss.
BGA (10-2) will host FRA (8-4), which it defeated earlier this season, after FRA upset 9-1 Notre Dame, 34-33.
Briston Bennett opened the scoring with a 14-yard touchdown run with 3:52 left in the first quarter, with kicker Jack Sauder’s point-after providing a 7-0 lead.
After a Webb field goal, Sauder answered with a 34-yarder with 8:48 left before half. Bennett then added a 9-yard touchdown run with 46 seconds in the second quarter, though Sauder missed the point-after.
Just 1:44 into the second half, quarterback Nick Semptimphelter (9 for 12, 129 yards, no interceptions) found Tiy Reed for a 45-yard touchdown pass.
Webb answered with a rushing score, but Bennett added his third touchdown of the night to put BGA up 20 midway through the fourth quarter.
