BGA Announces New Boys Head Soccer Coach

BGA John Millard Soccer Coach

Battle Ground Academy (BGA) has named John Millard as head coach of the boys soccer team. Millard replaces Rob Mitchell, who stepped down after 20 years to focus on his administrative roles at BGA.

Millard joined BGA in 2014 as an English Teacher and Upper School Dean of Students and has served as an assistant soccer coach for the past four years for the school’s boys and girls teams.

“As an assistant coach for the past four years, John has demonstrated his ability to lead the team,” said Fred Eaves, director of athletics. “He is an excellent coach and role model for our students. Throughout our process, it became clear that John had the experience and vision to add to the excellent tradition of BGA’s soccer program.”

Prior to coming to BGA, Millard served as head coach of the boys and girls soccer teams for East Hamilton School in Chattanooga. At BGA, he’s been a part of the 2014 girls state championship team and the 2015 and 2016 girls and 2018 boys state finalist teams.

“For the last four years, it has been a pleasure to be a part of the BGA soccer staff,” said Millard. “Today, I am honored to take the baton and lead a program with such a strong tradition of excellence. I appreciate the opportunity that Fred Eaves has given me and I am excited about what the future holds for our players.

In addition to his coaching experience with East Hamilton, Millard has been a Tennessee state coach for the Olympic Development Team and a coach for Chattanooga FC and Tennessee Soccer Club. He also was director of the Chattanooga Player Development Academy. He currently holds NSCAA Advanced National and Goal Keeping diplomas.
