BGA Alum Named National POW

BGA alum Nick Egli had a big week for Belmont University’s baseball team, being named a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week recipient.

Egli, a sophomore designated hitter/catcher, had 15 runs batted in only a four-game stretch. He had three home runs and three doubles while going 7-of-18 at the plate. He also scored six runs.

While at BGA, he led teh baseball team in RBIs, doubles, slugging percetnage, and home runs – being named a captain his senior year.

Egli played a big role in Belmont’s historic 34-10 win over UT-Martin late last month. He had two of the Bruins’ 12 home runs in that game.

Other National Player of the Week recipients:

  • LHP James Reeves, The Citadel: Reeves fired the first no-hitter at The Citadel in 13 years and tied his season high with 14 strikeouts during a 4-0 win over Mercer.
  • RHP Kolton Mahoney, Brigham Young: Mahoney tied the third-best performance in school history with 15 strikeouts during a 3-2 win over Portland as he threw 141 pitches in 8 innings.
  • 2B Nate Mondou, Wake Forest: Mondou belted 4 home runs over 4 games as he went 9-for-19 at the plate. He now has hit safely in 14 consecutive games.
  • 1B Thomas Stallings, Virginia Military Institute: Stallings went 7-for-15 with 3 homers, 5 runs scored, 5 RBI and 16 total bases over four games. Prior to a doubleheader at Furman, he entered the day hitting only .213. He then went 7-for-10 with 3 home runs and 5 RBI. Two of his home runs came in back-to-back at-bats as he became the first Keydet to accomplish the feat since 2010.
