Berry and Breslin Star in “The Call”

One of the first things I thought when I saw ‘The Call’ was what an absolute treat it was to see Abigail Breslin all grown up. Many of us came to adore her as the charming kid from ‘Little Miss Sunshine,’ in which she stole moviegoer’s hearts with her spunky attitude. Now, she’s acting alongside Halle Berry, as a teen named Casey, who has been kidnapped. Breslin is no longer a child actor and she definitely proves it with this role. Her character spends most of the time crying, screaming or fighting, as you would imagine anyone in that situation would and Breslin does it with finesse.

When Casey dials 911 from the trunk of the car she is trapped in, she reaches Jordan, played by Halle Berry. Jordan is faced with the unbearable task of finding a way to save Casey, despite many difficulties, such as an untraceable phone and a crafty criminal.

During the course of Casey’s kidnap, Jordan learns that the man who has taken Casey is the same man who kidnapped and murdered another teen girl six months prior. This prior incident had shaken Jordan and caused her to question her ability to do her job. Despite the fact that the police do all that they can to help Casey, Jordan takes matters into her own hands.

Michael Eklund plays the mysterious serial killer, Michael Foster. He has a lot of screen time in the movie but very few lines, which only add to his creepiness. His icy glare and demented behaviors gave me the chills. His motives are twisted–not much more can be said about this, without giving away the movie. Believe me, you’ve just got to go see it!

At only an hour and a half, some things were left to be desired with ‘The Call.’ On the whole, it is a great, thrilling movie, but I found myself asking questions and wanting more. ‘The Call’ moves very fast.  You’ll be hooked in the first scene and you won’t be bored for even one minute.  It is a fast paced, thrill ride, perfect for anyone seeking a spine-chilling movie.
