Belmont Loses 12th OVC Game

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Despite overcoming a six run deficit, the Bruins were unable to get past Eastern Illinois Saturday afternoon at Coaches Field, as the Bruins fell 7-5.

Jamie Ritchie led off the second with a single, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. An RBI single from Tyler Walsh drove home Ritchie and put the Bruins on the board. The Panthers responded in the bottom half tying the game, 1-1.

EIU scored six in the third, jumping out to a 7-1 lead.

An RBI single from Walsh scored William Dodd in the fourth.

In the sixth, Scott Moses drew a walk and Drew Ferguson was hit by a pitch before a single from Alec Diamond loaded the bases with two outs. Matt Beaty blasted a bases clearing double to bring the Bruins within two, 7-5.

The Bruins threatened in the ninth, but were unable to drive home the runners.

Belmont will conclude the series with the Panthers tomorrow at 12:00pm.
