Beat the Heat With These 7 Events at the Library

Summer is official here and the hot temperatures are reminding us of that every day with a heat index of 100+. Stay cool by checking out one of these great programs offered by the Williamson County Library, 1314 Columbia Avenue

1. A Book Encounter with Gayle Howell:  6-7:30 p.m. Monday, June 22.
Friends, family, and fans are invited to meet and greet Gayle Howell, the entertaining author of Things My Mother Taught Me.  More than just a book signing, his Book Encounter will include storytelling, original live music, videos, interaction with the audience, and more!  It’s appropriate for all age groups and something the whole family will enjoy.

2. Book Signing with Carroll Silvera:  6:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 24. 
Local author Carroll Silvera will read from her latest novel and will take questions from the audience. Copies of her books will be available for purchase.

3. Escape the Ordinary – Learn about the Body Farm at UT Knoxville1 p.m. Saturday, June 27.
This program is open to adults and teens.  Jana Andronowski will return with a new talk about the Forensic Anthropology Center at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, also known as “The Body Farm.”

4. For Teens: Movie Afternoon – The Avengers:3:30 p.m. Monday, June 22.
Beat the heat & join us for a free movie.

5.  Nanotechnology for Teens:4-5 p.m. Thursday, June 25.
Presented by The Adventure Science Center, join the library as they welcome Larry Dunlap and his crew of scientists to the Teen Room.  Explore nanotechnology (what happens when you make things tiny), through various hands-on experiments.  Space is limited, so register today online or by calling 615-595-1278.

6. Super Crafternoon:  2:30-4 p.m. Thursday, June 25, in the Children’s Activity Room.   Make something cool on a hot afternoon!  Kids ages 3 to 12 years can create some quick and easy craft projects including super hero wrist bands.

7. The Nashville Collection by Jill Zientek:  Don’t miss the dramatic Nashville night scenes by Williamson County photographic artist Jill Zientek, on display in the gallery hall.  Zientek uses her camera to capture special moments and loves the drama of night time photography.  Her camera is just one of the many “paint brushes” she uses to create works of art; she also paints with acrylics and watercolor.  For more information and to see more of her work, visit jillzphoto.com.
