Update: Battle of Franklin Sesquicentennial Events

The 150th anniversary of the Battle of Franklin is fast approaching, and there are many events to celebrate the history of Franklin during the month of November.

The 2014 Tennessee Civil War Sesquicentennial Signature Event is Franklin’s premier celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Franklin. The Factory’s Liberty Hall will be the site for a special exhibit and a number of authors and speakers presenting information about the historic battle.

The Tennessee Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission along with local groups such as Franklin 150 have many events planned for the month of November in order to remember the historic day, including the following:

Atlanta Author and Expert on the Army of Tennessee – Robert Jenkins – speaking on Confederate General Loring’s attack across what we call the “Eastern Flank.”

    •   A Guitar and a Pen Old Time Radio Hour with Robert Hicks
    •   Venue: The Franklin Theatre

    •   Tennessee State Civil War Sesquicentennial Signature Event – “The Last Campaign in Tennessee” – Speakers and Scholars Lecture

 Battlefield Illumination at Dusk

 

– Looking Back: The Civil War in Tennessee –hosted by TSLA and the Tennessee State Museum – bring your Civil War artifacts and have them digitized by the Tennessee State Library and Archives.
Examining Tennessee’s Last Campaign, Teaching Primary Sources from the Library of Congress –hosted by the MTSU Center for Historic Preservation; open to K-12 teachers; registration required
Tennessee Battlefield Living History Program at the Eastern Flank Battlefield Park; 1,000 students and teachers from Tennessee schools will be in attendance
Civil War exhibit hosted by the Tennessee State Museum – many of the artifacts in this exhibit will be on display for the first time during the Signature Event
Speaker symposium and Civil War partner resource exhibits at The Factory in Franklin – keynote speaker Damien Shiels from Ireland will be in attendance

Blue and Gray Living History Day – November 14-15 at Carnton Plantation; $5 per person

-“Battle Scarred” 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Franklin Special Exhibit – August 2, 2014 – April 26, 2015 – 1,600 square foot gallery of the Fleming Center at Carnton Plantation will display never before exhibited objects, many of which have not been together for 150 years.
$10 per adult, $5 for children ages 6-12, free for children 5 & under.
