The Battle of Franklin Commemorated in Illumination Ceremony, Volunteers Needed

On Saturday, November 30 at 4:30p, The Battle of Franklin Illumination Ceremony will take place at Carnton Plantation. During the ceremony, 10,000 luminaries will be on display, symbolizing the approximately 10,000 casualties inflicted during the battle.

The ceremony is brief, lasting only 15 minutes. Carnton Plantation and The Carter House have extended their tour hours to 7pm so guests of the Illumination Ceremony will have time to visit. Those interested in a walk-through tour can do so at no cost. Donations are gladly accepted.

To pull of such a tremendous event, volunteers are needed! Volunteers are needed at the following times:

Friday, November 29th at 10a to paint the grid for the Illumination

Saturday, November 30th, beginning at 1pm to set up luminaries and after the ceremony to clean up.

Volunteers will be provided with dinner in the Fleming Center at Carnton Plantation after clean-up.

For more information on volunteering or the ceremony itself, please contact Leigh Bawcom at (615) 794-0903 or [email protected].
