Basketball: TSSAA Delays Start of Region Tournaments

The TSSAA has pushed back the start of region tournament play due to hazardous weather conditions.

Icy road conditions forced several leagues across the state to postpone district championship and consolation rounds the last two days, making it impossible to start region play as originally schedule on Feb. 20.

The schools in our coverage zone completed their tournaments on Saturday, ahead of the treacherous conditions. Among those, Brentwood defeating Franklin in the 11-AAA boys title game 61-45.

The BGA boys won their region with a 75-42 win over Davidson Academy.

Brentwood’s girls fell to Dickson County 51-48 in the 11-AAA finale while FRA’s girls lost to Knoxville Webb 61-37.

The Region 6-AAA basketball tournament will be held at Franklin High School and has been rescheduled to begin Feb. 23.

Brackets have not been set yet because the District 12-AAA half of the field is undetermined due to their tournament being postponed.

Monday’s consolation games (girls: McGavock vs. Hunters Lane, boys: McGavock vs. Glencliff) were originally pushed back to Tuesday, but judging by current road conditions, a decision to postpone again looks to be in order.

If that is the case, 12-AAA championships rounds (girls: Cane Ridge vs. Overton, boys: Hillsboro vs. Cane Ridge) will fall even later in the week.
