Fans of Williamson County girls basketball were smelling an upset Tuesday night, but No. 2 Dickson County outlasted a strong effort from No. 7 Independence and advanced with a 53-46 win in the District 11-AAA quarterfinals.
The Lady Eagles, who finished the regular season with a 1-11 district record, were tied with Dickson County 42-42 in the fourth quarter before the higher seed pulled away.

Dickson County tied Brentwood with a 11-1 district record, losing the first-round bye in the tournament thanks to a coin flip.
Lea Lea Carter had a game-high 19 points for Dickson County.
Indy was led by Katie Pierce, who sank three 3-pointers on her way to 16 points.
Dickson County advances to face No. 3 seed Ravenwood on Friday.
