Baseball Recap: Father Ryan, FRA Get Blowout Wins

FRA vs Bell Buckle

Franklin Road Academy improved to 10-2 in their district with a 15-1 thumping of Bell Buckle. J. Byrd hit a round tripper and Dalton Ney added two doubles and a triple to rack up four RBI’s in the contest.

Father Ryan 13 Ensworth 1

The Fightin’ Irish got six runs in the first two innings, the most exciting of those runs coming on a triple in the second inning from Brendan Jordan. That would be Jordan’s only hit but it would be good enough for two RBI’s.

Josh O’Dwyer went 2 for 3 at the plate with a run batted in and three runs scored.

Nick Richter went the full seven on the mound to tally the win. He gave up just two hits and zero earned runs and striking out two batters.

Father Ryan is now 16-7 and 9-4 in their district and will play Ensworth again tomorrow and Friday.

Louisville St. Xavier 9 Brentwood Academy 1 (Game Played at WKU)

The Tigers of St. Xavier from Lousiville, Kentucky wasted no time at all, pouncing on the Eagles in the first inning by having seven runs cross the plate before Brentwood Academy could get their first three outs of the game.

BA mustered just three hits against St. X and their only run came on a fielders choice in the six inning.

Although it’s a bad loss it will have no bearing on district records, so there’s that. They fall to 8-13-2 and will return to Tennessee to play McCallie for three games over the weekend.

LaSalle (Cincinnati) 12 BGA 6

Battle Ground Academy didn’t have much of a chance against an out-of-state opponent either. The Wildcats hosting LaSalle of Ohio took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the 1st courtesy of Grant Drury RBI single.

The knockout blow didn’t come until the top of 6th of a 7-5 game. LaSalle scored five runs in that inning. BGA had a lot to do with that as there were 2 walks, one HBP, 2 wild pitches and one error. All of that coming in the top of the sixth and the Wildcats were unable to recover.

The Wildcats remain a solid 11-1 in their class but fall to 16-12 overall. They will host Baylor on Friday.

Independence 13 Spring Hill 10

In a slugfest, the Eagles pulled out the win over the Raiders as a couple of balls left the yard in this game.  Cameron Carroll hit a solo shot for Indy and Zach Harrison his a two-run homer for Spring Hill.

Independence scored five runs in the fifth but it was their five-run seventh that proved to be the difference. Tied 8-8 heading into the last inning, Carroll hit a lead off home run to give his team the lead at 9-8.  The Eagles would then load the bases and score their next three runs on a walk, HBP and a wild pitch.

Spring Hill would get two back in the bottom half of the inning but it wasn’t enough as the Raiders fall to 19-10, 8-2 in district while Indy improved to 9-19 and 4-14 in District Play.
