Barefoot Republic Host 4th Annual 5K 4 MLK

Barefoot Republic MLK 5K

Barefoot Republic Camp will celebrate its mission of racial reconciliation this Monday, January 15, 2018, with its 4th Annual 5K 4 MLK. The run/walk event will start at East Park Community Center (600 Woodland Street, Nashville) at 7:30 am. Prior to the race, special guest Dr. Clive Mentzel, native to South Africa and professor at Vanderbilt, will speak and inspire the participants, friends, and event volunteers in topics of diversity and unity in the city of Nashville. He is a specialist in the areas of the transition to democracy in South Africa, post-apartheid institution-building, reconciliation and conflict resolution, and wellness in refugee and immigrant communities.

Reconciliation is at the forefront of Barefoot’s mission, and the 5K 4 MLK is a special event to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Through this event, Barefoot hopes to shine a spotlight on both diversity and unity, honoring those who stood up for justice and civil rights in generations past while continuing to model and advocate for racial reconciliation for the generations to come.

Online registration for the 5K 4 MLK is open through January 12th and race day registration is also available. More details are available at Packet pick-up and registration starts at 6:30 am. Proceeds support Barefoot Republic Camp’s scholarship program, through which at least 50% of its campers receive partial or full scholarship support.
