It’s going to be a long trip home to Dallas for A+ Academy.

Despite two blowout victories already this season, the Brentwood Academy Eagles (3-1) looked their most dominant against the A+ Academy Knights (0-3) Friday, winning 65-18.

However, the defending Division II-AA state champions will face superior competition when they take on region foe, Baylor, next week.

“I wanted our kids to play well and it’s hard in those kind of games, but I thought we did a pretty good job,” Eagles head coach Cody White said. “We’re getting better at some of the things we need to get better at and staying healthy, which is big leading in to the next three weeks.”

A+ Academy failed to convert several fourth downs on their own side of the field in the first half, leading to excellent field position for the Eagles’ offense.

Eagles receiver Lawrence Segree scored the first touchdown of the game on a pass from quarterback Jeremiah Oatsvall. Oatsvall threw two additional touchdowns to prized recruit Camron Johnson, as well as adding a 52-yard touchdown scramble, all in the first half.

Backup quarterback and tight end Gavin Schoenwald entered the game in the second quarter, leading the Eagles to several successful touchdown drives. Conner Woodlee was the third quarterback under center for the Eagles, playing most of the second half.

Oatsvall threw for 127 yards, Schoenwald added 69, and Woodlee finished with 38 passing yards.

“Things like this, the positive of it is you get a chance to get some younger guys a lot of playing time, and that’s what we did,” White said.

Brentwood Academy balanced their spread offense with 170 yards on the ground and four rushing touchdowns.

Mario Pleasant was the first running back to score after the Eagles’ defense forced a safety. Marcos Harris followed suit by scoring three rushing touchdowns, all coming from inside the red zone.

“The O-Line did what they had to do,” Harris said. “This is a good team. We had leaders like J.O. and Cam, and we had to cheer on the younger guys to bring them up.”

The Eagles’ defense was unforgiving throughout the game. A+ Academy continuously played towards the sidelines, whether it was a halfback toss or a throw to the flats, but the Eagles’ first-team defense wouldn’t give an inch.

After forcing a safety, the defense recovered two fumbles and Jackson Sirmon picked off A+ Academy’s quarterback, Sean Wallace, in the red zone.

A+ Academy’s three touchdowns came on runs from Sean Wallace, Palmer Hughes, and Lynndale Thurst late in the fourth quarter.
