One of Australia’s Most Successful Entertainment Groups Comes to Franklin

The TEN Tenors are one of Australia’s most successful touring entertainment groups of all time and this year marks the 20th anniversary of the group’s formation. They are currently on tour and began the year in Europe. They will perform at The Franklin Theatre on March 17th. We sat down with Michael Edward, who joined the group back in 2014, to learn more about their show coming to the Franklin Theatre in March.

Will this be the first show for the Ten Tenors to perform at the Franklin Theatre?

Yes, this will be our first time performing at The Franklin Theatre. It’s always exciting to bring our show to a brand new audience.

Can you tell us what to expect from the show?

There are so many things in a TEN Tenors show – and you really can expect the unexpected. We’ll be singing at the top of our range, bottom of our range, loud, soft, and everything in between. For everyone out there who is expecting to hear just classical music, you will probably get the biggest shock – we love giving a tenorial spin to contemporary and rock anthems.

What exactly does it take to become one of the TEN Tenors?

One of the main ideas behind The TEN Tenors is celebrating everything about the tenor voice – and not just the operatic version of a tenor one usually thinks of. So to be a part of the group, it is important to have a unique tenor voice, and that could be in any style. Apart from being a top notch singer, we tour and travel in pretty close quarters. Living on a bus can bring out the best and worst in people. For this reason, during the audition process, we like to have a beer with any incoming members, and make sure they’re good blokes who can deal with the touring conditions!

TEN Tenors is celebrating 20 years on tour with their stop in Franklin, what do you think keeps audiences coming back?

I think audiences are drawn to the tenor voice as it is so versatile. In particular, to the TEN Tenors, not one of our voices is the same and that makes for a very exciting show – you just don’t know what you might hear next. One of my favorite parts about being with the group is that I get to go on stage with nine mates every night who want to make great music and have a lot of fun. I think this vibe resonates from the stage and the audience gets on board with it and enjoys the journey with us. I think that’s what makes us unique and why we continue to travel the globe after 20 years.

What else do you plan to do while you are in town?

We do have a day off preceding our show at the Franklin, so we would love to just check it out! Any coffee or beer recommendations are welcome!

Thanks so much to Michael for taking time out to talk with us.  Be sure to purchase your tickets online at the Franklin Theatre website for the show on March 17 at 8 pm.
