Atwell Has Big Day As Chargers Take Series

COLUMBIA, Tn — Although they fell behind 2-0 in the top of the 1st, this one turned out to be a much easier win for Columbia State than the previous meeting between the two teams. CSCC collected twelve hits and tallied 11 runs with more than half coming in the bottom of the first frame.

The sixth run first was highlighted by a two-run triple from Austin Atwell, giving Atwell four RBI’s on the day and a two-run single by Caleb Patterson.

Columbia State answered every time Roane State attempted to comeback into the game.

After Roane State got one run back in the top of the third, Austin Atwell blasted a  leadoff home run to left to lead off the bottom half.

The visitors made it a little  interesting in the eighth, rallying for three runs that started with a Ralph O’Neil homer over the left field wall.

But once again, the Chargers would respond. They manufactured three more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning allowing William Snider plenty of insurance.

Andrew Henson left the yard for Roane State in their last at bats but that wouldn’t be enough as Columbia State advance to the NJCAA Region VII Championship with a chance to defend their crown.

The games start May 2nd at Volunteer State.
