Ansbach Artisans Celebrates Black History Month

Ansbach Artisans

In celebration of Black History Month, Ansbach Artisans in Franklin, 1974 Wilson Pike, will feature the works of six local African American artists during the gallery’s monthly Saturday Night Live Art (SNL Art) event.

Michael McBride, Lakesha Moore, Elisheba Israel, Xavier Payne, N’Digo Kali, and Essence Devonne will be painting live in the gallery on Saturday, Feb. 27 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. All of the artists will also be displaying and selling finished works. Live music will be provided by Roland Gresham and his smooth jazz guitar. This special event is free, open to the public, and family friendly.

Owner Michael Phillips opened Ansbach Artisans in May 2015 at 1974 Wilson Pike in Franklin. The former site of Jamison Market is now the home of a wonderful art gallery which features only original works by Middle Tennessee artists. The gallery is named for the city of Ansbach, Germany where Phillips served in the Army as a Black Hawk helicopter pilot.

“February’s SNL Art is a special event,” Phillips said. “We’re excited to celebrate local talent and the importance of Black History Month with artists and the community. SNL Art is unique to Ansbach Artisans and being able to feature only African American artists makes February’s SNL Art a one of a kind event. I’m honored to host it.”

SNL Art is on the final Saturday of each month and is open to visitors of all ages. Details of the event can be found on the gallery website, AnsbachArtisans.com.
