Annual Franklin Festival To Change Dates

2016 will bring a new change for a popular tradition in Historic Downtown Franklin. Brewfest, held annually on Main Street in Downtown Franklin, has been on the Saturday before St. Patrick’s Day for years. The Downtown Franklin Association announced this morning ,at their first meeting of the year, that the popular event will be moved to a new date.

Brewfest, also called Brew,Stew, and Stroll …and Feile Franklin..both causing verbal issues .. has seen a few changes over the years. But, as the only annual fundraiser for the Downtown Franklin Association, the event has continued to grow despite bad weather the last couple of years. In an effort to re-vitalize and re-vamp, the DFA board has decided to move the event from St. Patrick’s Day week and will be looking at a May event. A combination of weather issues , and also the increasing popularity of Nashville, Savannah, and other “larger” venues, to celebrate the wearing of the green were part of the decision.

According to DFA Vice-President and owner of McCreary’s Irish Pub,Natasha Hendrix, the move is a good one:

We are getting away from this being a St. Patrick’s Day event, and more about being an event to come and try different beers.Plus the weather should be more inviting to make it a bigger and better event.

As soon as the DFA comes up with a date and when tickets go on sale we will let you know!

About the Downtown Franklin Association:

The Downtown Franklin Association, established in 1984, is a non-profit committed to historic preservation and community vibrancy. Since its founding, the DFA has helped spearhead the revitalization of Franklin’s historic downtown core. The organization and its members–made up of local business owners and merchants–have done it by following the four-point program of the National Main Street Center of the National Trust for Historic Preservation: Organization, Design, Promotion and Economic Restructuring.

Working in partnership with the Heritage Foundation of Franklin & Williamson County, property owners, city and county government, local businesses and merchants in our historic retail district, the Downtown Franklin Association (DFA) has helped create one of the nation’s Main Street success stories.
