After taking in 128 dogs in July, Williamson County Animal Center in Franklin is at capacity for adult canines. To encourage adoptions, effective immediately, the shelter is reducing the adoption fee for adult dogs to just $20. The normal fee is $85.

Shelter director Laura Chavarria said that in an average month, the shelter usually takes in about 70 dogs. “In July, we were swamped with a larger than normal number of surrendered and stray adult dogs. Our adoption room is full, and two additional smaller areas have been made into adoption rooms,” she reported. “We have reduced the adoption fee to $20 for adult dogs, and want to give the community every incentive we can to come by and adopt these wonderful pets.”

The summer crisis of kitten overcrowding continues as well, and kittens are $10 with a second companion kitten available at no charge. All adoptions require an approved application, and some restrictions apply to out-of-county adoptions.
