Runners and walkers can begin their Independence Day at the 18th Annual Andrews Cadillac Firecracker 5K/10K being held at the Maryland Farms YMCA July 4th. The inaugural 10K begins at 7:00 a.m. and the 5K begins at 7:20 a.m. The Luken Kids Fun Run begins at 8:30 a.m. A costume contest and special appearances by Uncle Sam and Lady Liberty will make it a day for the whole family to get their Fourth of July off to a running start.
Registration online is underway and is $30. On July 1st, registration until the day of race will be $40. Registration is free for those who have a valid military ID. Registration packets can be picked up at Fleet Feet Sports, located at 330 Franklin Road, Brentwood, on Thursday, July 2nd and Friday, July 3rd from 12 p.m. until 6 p.m.
The Luken Kids Fun Run is $10 per child. All those registered for the races will receive a tee shirt. For the kids fun run, participants will receive a shirt and a dog tag for a participation award.
Awards for the Andrews Cadillac Firecracker are based on the clock (gun) time. Age group awards will be based on the chip time. Overall winners will be for the top three male and female runners; Masters Overall, top three male and top three femail age 40-49; Grandmasters, to three male and top three female aged 50 plus. Age group winners will be broken down by: 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 and over.
