The Game Must Go On
Well, the JVA President’s Day in the Music City weekend tournament, hosted by Alliance Volleyball and Team Indiana Volleyball Club, is going on as planned.
Only, that is really saying something. A-Game, as many will know, closed Feb 4th in an unexpected move in an ongoing legal situation between Alliance, MDG Management, which runs hockey clubs out of A-Game, and the owners of A-Game.
A-Game is being sold to AL Neyer, a Cincinnati-based development company, which will turn it into an office complex. The sale came about last summer, a short time after A-Game let Alliance and MDG sign leases to use the sportsplex through 2017 and 2019 respectively. Chaos and contentious back and forth ensued as A-Game attempted to end the leases early to complete the sale, culminating last week in the sudden close.
Both sides agreed to a mediation solution on Friday, after the complex had been closed for a week and a day, allowing A-Game to reopen at least until Feb. 25 and, most immediately, the Alliance tournament to go on at A-Game, which had been the plan all along.
Alliance set up courts early at the Ag Centerin the past week to get ready for tournament, which brought 127 teams from around the country and several thousand athletes and their families to Williamson County, instead at the Will Co. Ag Center.
The last-minute agreement meant that the Ag Center would not have to bear the brunt of the tournament- 12 courts at A-Game and 7 at the Ag Center are being used.
As for the tournament itself, it is going smoothly and will continue through Monday
