Here is a quick rundown of what Apple just announced during their latest event:
- Apple TV is getting HBO’s debut of it’s stand-alone streaming service and may now be used without cable or satellite subscription.
- HealthKit and ResearchKit are apps that want to shape the future of medical research. Open-source, first 5 apps created with ResearchKit are available today on the app store. Apps target Parkinson’s disease, diabetes, breast cancer, cardiovascular disease, asthma.
- New MacBook is the thinnest and lightest notebook form ever released by Apple coming in at exactly 2 pounds.
- It will be available in gray (silver), slightly grayer (space gray) and gold.
- The keyboard has been redesigned with bigger, thinner keys and has an LED light under every single key.
- Display is retinal, 12-inches and 3 million pixels.
- The new pressure-sensitive force touch trackpad recognizes little nuances of touch that can quickly connect to apps. Use a “force touch” or hard tap to bring up a wikipedia entry for a word, or force click to bring up a map for an address, or in QuickTime the harder you press the trackpad the faster the video will play.
- It has no fan and a smaller logic board.
- The Intel Core M processor runs on 5 watts, and Apple claims the battery life will last all day.
- USB-C port is 5 ports in one HDMI, power, USB data transfer, Display Port and VGA.
- Available April 10.
- Apple Watch has a touchscreen and two buttons that control timekeeping, weather, music, calendar, heart rate monitor, text messages, emails and take calls.
- Exercise tracking will tell the wearer how much time they have been sitting, walking and exercising in a three ring display. There’s also a workout watch app available.
- Cases available: stainless steel in traditional and space black, aluminum in gray (silver) and slightly grayer (space gray) and ‘Edition’ in 18-karat yellow or rose gold with a number of different bands compatible with each case.
