Father Ryan’s Visual and Performing Arts Department will host acclaimed Nashville
actress Nan Gurley at the January Why Arts? program at Father Ryan. The event takes
place on January 29 at 6:30pm in the Center for the Arts.

Ms. Gurley is best known for her extensive work on the local stage in roles such Mama
Rose in Gypsy, Mrs. Beaver in The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, Carlotta
in Phantom and Dolly Levi in Hello Dolly!

Father Ryan’s Why Arts? Speaker Series began last year as an initiative by Visual and
Performing Arts Department Chair Kelli (Ware) McClendon to provide the greater
Father Ryan community with access to artists working in a variety of fields.

“It’s important for students who may want to pursue Visual and Performing Arts that there
are many avenues to take,” said McClendon. “Individuals with artistic careers can have fulfilling jobs in a variety of capacities. There are many ways to define success.”
