Ravenwood High School junior Natalie Conlon is the type of student who always strives to be the best she can be.

That’s why teachers selected her as Ravenwood’s Academic All-Star for the 2017-18 school year.

“Natalie is an extraordinary young woman,” said RHS teacher Haley Beeler. “The moment she walks into my room she radiates positive and magnetic energy. She truly has a deep desire to learn and to succeed. She is hardworking, determined and respected by her peers.”

Although she enjoys her history class, Natalie says she loves learning everything she can about the health field.

“I love medical therapeutics because that’s what I want to do when I’m older,” said Natalie. “I got into the nursing program here at RHS so I’m super excited for that next year.”

When she’s not studying, Natalie stays busy by participating in numerous activities.

“I’m a cheerleader for varsity football,” said Natalie. “I am also in student council, United Way, Ravenwood Girls Cotillion and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.”

Despite her busy schedule, Natalie always puts her education first as she plans for the next chapter in her life.

“College is a big deal to me, and I really want to go to the University of Alabama for nursing,” said Natalie. “It’s very competitive so I know I have to get on it if I want to do that.”

In the meantime, Natalie says she’ll take pride in knowing she is one of this year’s All-Stars.

“I’m really honored,” said Natalie. “It’s really cool to know that I’m one of 44 in the whole county. All the hard work is paying off.”

The Academic All-Star award is given to students who exhibit a positive attitude and a commitment to excellence in the classroom. Each Academic All-Star is chosen by his or her principal and receives a framed certificate, free food from Sonic Drive-In and other gifts from the district.
