Eleven-year-old Emma Bradford is a hard-working student who’s known for being polite, kind and always willing to lend a helping hand.

That’s why teachers and staff at Bethesda Elementary chose her as the school’s Academic All-Star for the 2017-18 school year.

Having attended Bethesda since kindergarten, Emma says the teachers at BES are not only caring; they also have a great sense of humor.

“They like to tell jokes sometimes,” said Emma. “They’re funny, and they are always nice.”

That’s one reason why Emma says math is her favorite subject.

“Ms. Lewis makes it fun,” said Emma. “I like division and multiplying. I don’t always get it right, but I do like math.”

Outside of school, Emma spends much of her time playing soccer.

“I’ve been playing since I was in third grade,” said Emma. “It’s a good way to stay active, and I like being part of a team that compliments one another.”

Although she’s not sure what she wants to be when she grows up, Emma knows that getting a good education is the key to success.

“An education can lead you to the job you want in the future,” said Emma. “That motivates me to do well in school. I also like to make the honor roll so that encourages me to try hard too.”
