A Trot Down Memory Lane: Local Experts Honor National I Love Horses Day

Sunday, July 15th, is National I Love Horses Day. Horse and equestrian lovers can celebrate by spending time with their horses, going for a ride or just thinking about all the great memories they have with their horses.

To honor the day, the staff at Franklin Horse Supply shared how they fell in love with horseback riding.

Rebecca Renfro, Manager: My love for horses was first discovered on a series of trail rides with my Dad at age 10. We rode on vacation in the Great Smokey Mountains, and when we got home I begged to go riding again. He took me several times to the Riverwood Riding Stables in Nashville and we would trail ride together there. I will never forget the first time on the trail when my dad said, “Want to go faster?”- I, of course, said yes. We took off galloping and the rest was history! I immediately started weekly riding lessons at Oak Hill School and have such fond memories of lessons and showing my first horse, Dandy Man, in many local hunter/jumper shows. I am now blessed to live on a farm in beautiful Williamson County surrounded by horses in my daily life!

Stephanie Renegar, Feed Sales Manager: At age three I fell in love with my Mom’s paint mare, Dakota. I remember climbing on top of the doghouse to get the tiny saddle on and not being strong enough to tighten the girth but trying anyway. I would trail ride all around Joleton following my Mom, and later even riding thru the drive thru window at McDonalds and Subway on horseback!

Kelsey Locke, Equestrian Specialist: I found my love for horses at a therapeutic riding program in Las Vegas, NV. My Dad had a friend who ran the facility and allowed me to come and take riding lessons on a white Arabian named Apollo. They had me learn to master riding bareback before moving on to riding both Western and English, and I have never stopped!
