A Desk Side Chat with Franklin Mayor, Dr. Ken Moore

The Williamson Source was delighted to spend some time talking about the future of Franklin with Mayor Ken Moore. Take a few short minutes to listen and watch this excerpt where the mayor explains a bit about Long Range Planning and the issues facing the city in the future.

Dr. Ken Moore explains that the city is conducting long-range planning in a financially sound manner using public/private partnerships when the opportunity arises. “With a 49 percent growth over the last 10 years, the city has challenges with storm and waste water regulations and capacity,” explains Moore.

Capital Investment Projects (CIP) are a juggling act for the city with always more to do that there are funds to commit. A list of proposed projects and funding options is available on the city’s Web site. The city’s Capital Improvement Fund was created in 2006 and captures many of the funds that use bond proceeds. Included in this are road, drainage and communications projects; a $4.5 million issue for WI-FI, the $4.5 million for half of Battlefield Park and the right-of-way for McEwen and the $20 million issued in 2007 for various road projects and the public safety building. These larger projects require a great deal of planning and projecting to come to fruition.

Check back tomorrow for another video chat with Mayor Ken Moore.
