We saved a hard question for last in our series with Mayor Moore. We asked about plans to help rebuild the 5th Avenue business area hit by the flood. 150 properties lie in the Flood Fringe Overlay area.
State law says there is a limited time of 30 months to renovate these properties. The city has passed a resolution to help. It extends that time frame for the business owners for an additional 12 months. The problem is currently without a solution says the Mayor, but he feels bringing some expertise in to study the corridor would assist in making the best decisions for use of the area.
The next step is a zoning ordinance change to make it friendlier for businesses. The business owners are the key to making something happen and the city is trying to assist by staying out of the way for entrepreneurs to brainstorm and develop a plan to rebuild the area. Mayor Moore says “stay tuned we are trying to make something good happen.”
