H.G. Hill Realty Company’s shareholders and team members gathered alongside City of Brentwood Mayor Jill Burgin and Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and tenants at Hill Center Brentwood on May 17 for a multifaceted celebration.

Along with a ribbon cutting recognizing the mixed-use development’s phase I completion and 100 percent leasing, the company also ceremonially broke ground for phase II of the center.

Watch our video from the event below where City of Brentwood Mayor tells us she has a first-hand experience with Hill Center as she works part-time at Sur La Table and hear from Tennessee’s Governor as he shares with the audience about Williamson County.

 Plans for Phase II

Phase II plans include a 92,950 square foot, 141 room AC Hotel by Marriott. Huntsville, Ala.-based Doradus Partners will partner with H.G. Hill Realty Company on the hotel’s development and Yedla Management Company, also headquartered in Huntsville, will manage the property. Plans also include a partnership with SVMIC to build an 84,375 square foot office building that will be approximately 50 percent preleased by the company. SVMIC will be relocating from its nearby Maryland Farms location once the building is completed in early 2020. Additional plans are for two retail buildings containing 9,600 and 10,000 square feet, a two-level, 315 space parking garage and a pedestrian walkway connecting the hotel and office building to Maryland Farms Park.

“We have a lot to celebrate,” said Jimmy Granbery, chairman and CEO, H.G. Hill Realty Company. “The center has been very well received by both the business community and Brentwood residents. Phase II continues our vision of a walkable, connected mixed-use development with a variety of Class A office space alongside retail and restaurants. The addition of the AC Hotel by Marriott adds to the amenities and meets current and future tenant needs for overnight accommodations, and we are proud to add SVMIC, another excellent local business, to the center.”

Hill Center Brentwood has also earned accolades within the development community. The project recently received the People’s Choice award and the Excellence in Development award in the private sector-large project category at the Urban Land Institute Nashville District Council’s (ULI Nashville) 10th annual development awards.

Unveiling of New Book and Statue

As a nod to the family-owned company’s appreciation of nature and the outdoors, the event also included the unveiling of a book that ties in the bronze statues located in the plaza. Created by Stuart, Florida-based Sculptor Geoffrey Smith, the statues include a boy reading a book sitting next to the fountain and two herons within the fountain. The company, which wanted to add additional statues while also providing a creative and fun way for children to explore and learn about native Tennessee wildlife, produced “Outside All Around, A Wildlife Seek and Find.” The coloring book begins at the statue of the boy reading a book and tells the story of his love of nature and exploring the outdoors. His story takes readers along on his journey around the center’s plaza to discover six additional hidden statues.

Nashville-based children’s book illustrator Mary Reaves Uhles created the art for the book and local children’s book author and musician Layne Ihde is the author. “I was delighted to be asked to develop the narrative for the children’s book and scavenger hunt,” said Ihde. “H.G. Hill Realty Company demonstrates that it is possible to weave in nature and artistic sensibilities into man-made spaces. It was a joy to write and I encourage everyone, adults and children alike, to read the book.”

“The book turned out so well that we published a limited run of full color hardcover versions dedicated to Frances Hill Caldwell Jackson, a beloved family member that passed away last year,” said Granbery. “We are also pleased to support early childhood literacy efforts with a donation to the Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation.” The Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation is a public-private partnership that works in coordination First Lady Crissy Haslam’s office and partners with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to promote early literacy throughout Tennessee. Granbery presented the $10,000 donation prior to the ceremonial ribbon cutting and groundbreaking.

Wentworth Caldwell Jr., chairman, H.G. Hill Company, shared the dedication of the book to attendees and also revealed the dedication of the herons statue to another beloved family member, Anne Parsons. A commemorative plaque is installed in her honor. Copies of the hard cover book will be provided to the Brentwood Library and a printable version of the coloring book may be found online at hillcenterbrentwood.com. Restaurant tenants will also have copies.
