8 More WCS Students Named National Merit Scholarship Winners

In February, we reported that 34 Williamson County high school seniors had been named National Merit Finalists, tying the district record for the number of Finalists, which was set last year.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation have begun announcing the scholarship winners and eight Williamson County students are among this elite group.

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships. Since its inception in 1955, The National Merit Scholarship Program HAS honored individual students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies.

Out of 1.5 million entries, only 15,000 move on to the Finalist standing. Of that number, approximatley 8,000 are selected to receive a Merit Scholarship awards.These awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.

The eight scholarship winners are:

Rebecca Sinard, Brentwood High, planning to attend Northwestern University
Anjuli Young, Brentwood High, planning to attend Vanderbilt University
Briar Cranston, Centennial High, planning to attend Auburn University
Nataalie Andros, Franklin High, planning to attend Arizona State University
Joshua Garrett, Franklin High, planning to attend Tennessee Technological University
Randall Hayes Morgan II, Page High, planning to attend Vanderbilt University
Laura Evans, Ravenwood High, planning to attend Pepperdine University
