2. 1 County or 44 Communities?
The county might have been officially founded in October 1799, but a bit before and very much after, 44 unique communities emerged as the county was settled. Some are still here, others have been long forgotten.
These communities include: Allisona on the southeast corner of the county, which first appeared on maps in 1878 as Jordan’s Store, where Johnson Jordan’s store and post office turned into a community named after his wife. Arno, which gave Arno Road its name, as well as, Fernvale, Flagpole, Flat Creek, Triune and West Harpeth, which grew up around the L & N Railway tracks and the West Harpeth Depot, and was apparently famous for once shipping 2,400 lambs to the east coast. Also there is Mudtown, Boston, Whiteoak, Clovercroft, Liberty Hill, Kingfield and so on. In a future post, we will name them all and their histories.
