In the last decade, car technology has come a long way. From simple CD players to Bluetooth connectivity to sensors and cameras that alert drivers to any dangers in the road; car technology is ever evolving. Here are 7 of the newest auto technologies from Infiniti that are not only helping drivers but ultimately changing the way we drive.
1. Forward Emergency Braking
Infiniti’s forward breaking system works by calculating the distance between you and the vehicle in front of you, as well as the speed of both vehicles in order to estimate the possibility of a collision to alert you and help you avoid it. There are two stages: first it uses visual and audible cues to push the accelerator pedal up. If the driver releases the accelerator, the system applies partial braking; second, if the risk is still present, the system provides additional warnings and harder braking to avoid the collision if possible.
2. Predictive Forward Collision Warning
This safety feature doesn’t just take into account the car directly in front of you, it also takes into account potential risks that are obscured from the driver up to two cars in front. It senses the relative velocity and distance of a vehicle directly ahead and the vehicle in front of it. This allows the driver to respond more quickly if dangerous driving conditions were to pop up as well as provides the peace of mind to know that they are safe driving at all times.
3. Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) with Active Lane Control
Like the emergency braking system, Infiniti’s Lane Departure Prevention system uses a camera to monitor the distance between the vehicle and lane markings. If the vehicle drifts, the system signals a warning that allows the driver to correct, but if the need occurs it can even selectively apply the brakes to help keep your vehicle in its lane.
4. Direct Adaptive Steering
Another technology advancement which increases safety is Infiniti’s Direct Adaptive Steering® (DAS), which removes the mechanical connection between the steering wheel and tires. This allows for instantaneous driver input that can be digitally processed and adjusted up to 1,000 times per second. This makes driving less of a task, but also more driver controlled and experienced. In addition, the system allows the driver to choose between multiple driving modes for quicker steering and more driving pleasure overall.
5. Around View Monitor
While the previous technologies affect forward driving detection and handling of the vehicle and side to side detection, the around view monitor uses four well-placed cameras that surround the vehicle to show the driver all around the vehicle. This creates a virtual 360° view of what surrounds the vehicle, displaying it on an in-dash screen on the front console.
6. Blind Spot Warning
Like the cameras for the around view monitors, the blind spot warning system alerts the driver to vehicles detected by sensors in the blind spots. An indicator light illuminates if another vehicle is detected. If the driver turns on the turn signal, the indicator flashes and makes an audible warning sound.
7. Intelligent Cruise Control
This feature helps you manage your speed and maintain distance from the car ahead when the cruise control is enabled. It does this by automatically slowing your vehicle when traffic slows to help maintain a safe distance, then resuming your set cruising speed when traffic clears.
Technologies, especially in cars, have been advancing swiftly, and these are just a handful of the new ones that are changing the way we drive today.
