7 Essentials to Pack for Summer Vacation

Headed out for the family summer vacation or for a weekend getaway?  We’ve got you covered on packing essentials for your next trip.  If you are the mom in the family, not only are you packing for yourself but for pretty much the entire family, which makes this first item on our list so important.

1. Make a List. Before the iPhone, I would have a hand written list but now I find it easier to use my notes app and type in my list. Either way, old school or new school, have a list.  In your list, include the basics along with  those items that tend to get left behind-aka toothbrush or phone charger.

2.  Plan Your Wardrobe.  For the purpose of creating multiple outfits, stick to a color scheme for your trip.  Black and White always mixes well or you could choose mostly neutrals with a pop of color.  By keeping the wardrobe basic, you can limit the amount of shoes that you pack.

3. Don’t Forget Your Accessories.  Statement earrings, necklace, and a great belt will help to further  your wardrobe while you are traveling. The great thing is that they take up little space in your luggage.

4. Research Your Destination.  Check to see if your location offers a laundry service.  It can keep you from overpacking. Also, the same goes for bringing toiletries, often you can purchase them at your destination.

5. Don’t forget to roll your clothes.  Tightly rolling your clothes saves space and prevents wrinkles.  While this works well on most fabric, think cotton, spandex, and lighter weight fabrics.  There will be a few items that will require a traditional fold.

6. Tag Team.  If you are traveling with your family, you are probably already doing this. If you are traveling with a friend, divide up essentials items to bring on your trip.  You don’t need 5 blowdryers and 5 bottles of shampoo.

7. Essentials of Essentials.  Here are a few things that you often don’t think to pack but often end up needing. Add these items to your  list:  plastic bags for swimsuits or cosmetics, cheap sunglasses, book to read, flip flops for hotel floors, foldable hat, hand sanitizer, cross body bag, and Q-tips.
