6 Things to Do With Your Family on MLK Day

School’s out Monday in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr Day, so why not get the family together for a family fun day?

Here are some local things you and your family can enjoy on MLK Day.

1.Preds Practice at Ford Ice Center–FREE
5264 Hickory Hollow, Antioch 37013
You can watch the Preds practice at 11am at Ford Ice Center for free. Afterwards, you can hit the ice for public skate. Preds practice is from 11a-1p and public skate is from 1:15p-4p.
Admission to the public skate is $7 for adults, $6 for youth (age 3-10), children 2 and under are free. Skate rental is $3.

2. FREE Play at My Gym, Brentwood
330 Franklin Road, Brentwood
From 9a-12p, My Gym is hosting an open house with free play open to the public in celebration of their 11th year in business. The day will include games, relays, puppets, gymnastics, bubble fun, giveaways and more.

3. FREE Admission to Discovery Center at Murfree Spring, Murfreesboro
502 E. Broad Street, Murfreesboro 37130
The Discovery Center celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. through arts, culture, and more.
Hours: 10a-5p.

4. Megalodon: Largest Shark that Ever Lived at Adventure Science Center
800 Fort Negley Blvd, Nashville
Walk through full-scale jaws into a Megalodon sculpture and begin to explore the story of this fantastic ancient creature – its size, structure, diet, lifespan, relatives, neighbors, evolution, extinction and the science that continues to reveal Megalodon’s tale. Megalodon is the largest shark that ever lived! Estimated to be approximately 60 feet in length, this formidable top predator occupied the world’s ancient oceans 17-2 million years ago.
Hours are 10-5p, Adventure Science Center is located at 800 Fort Negley Blvd, in Nashville.

5. Traveller’s Rest
636 Farrell Parkway, Nashville 37220
Follow the life of one of Tennessee’s most influential 19th century characters, Judge John Overton. The historic house represents in detail his family, his ventures, and the friendships he built before his death in 1833.
Hours: 10-4:30p (last guided tour begins at 4p)
Admission: $12 adults, $10 (6-17), free (5 and under)

6. The Carter House/Carnton Plantation
1140 Columbia Ave/1345 Eastern Flank Circle
Guided tours are available at each site and last approximately one hour. The Carter House and Carnton are approximately 1.25 miles from each other. Carnton served as Confederate field hospital during The Battle of Franklin. The Carter House served as Federal headquarters during The Battle. The Carter Family sought refuge in their basement as The Battle of Franklin raged about their home.
