50 Years: Fairview Yearbooks Show Yellow Jackets of Yesteryear

1967 Team

This will be the official 50th season for Fairview football.

With the “Battle of 840” versus Page tonight at Fairview High School, we wanted to take a look back at teams of the past. The first year there was a football team was 1967.

The Fairview Yellow Jackets first flew out of their hive and onto the football field at its current location in 1982.

But before that, the high school in Fairview was called West High, and was founded in 1956. In those last years before moving to the current location in 1982, they saw little success on the field- going 1-5 in 1974, 4-6 in 1975,  1-10 in 1976, 1-9 in 1977 and 6-4 in 1978.

Despite the tough seasons, though, the Fairview football tradition was born.

Looking back at yearbooks from those rough early years shows the faces, triumphs and failures of the era.

The pictures in the slider are from yearbooks 1967 season through the 1979 season.

In that 1967 season, they went just 2-5. Last year the ‘Jackets went undefeated in the regular season.

For the Fairview faithful, let’s hope this year is more like that last than the first.
