5 Ways to Survive the Month Of May

Mother and two daughters (8-12) in kitchen

I’m sure you have heard the phrase “May is the new December” meaning that May is so jam packed with activities, it can be a little overwhelming at times.

Blogger Jen Hatmaker, wrote a post called Worst End of School Year Mom Ever.  In her post, she details how we are all losing steam and it never fails that teachers ask for one more project to be completed before the end of school.  How many can relate to things like: the end of choir party, last practice and party for baseball, being asked to bring snacks to school and the list goes on.  And then there are recitals, honor programs, preschool graduation, Kindergarten graduation, 5th grade graduation, I mean  how many times can we graduate in our school career these days?

Just know that we are all in this together. We will make it to the finish line,at which point we will mark another school year off the calendar.  We will celebrate that we no longer have to drag sleepy children out of bed early in the morning but until then,  here are our five ways to survive the last couple of weeks of May.

1. Buy a teacher gift ahead of time.

2. Embrace Caffeine or whatever keeps you going but also keep drinking your water.

3. Realize that your personal life is on hold for the next couple of weeks.

4. Plan your meals-  Ok, let’s be honest.  If you are going to three events a week, cooking a meal at home may not be reasonable.  So, know the best places for easy fast meals like Whole Foods and Puffy Muffin. And there is always  Chik-fil-A family night and Sonic’s Wacky Pack Deal on Wednesday for $1.99.

5. Have a family meeting to look at the calendar.  Make sure everyone  knows the schedule for the next couple of weeks or you may find out about a  commitment  your children made on your behalf.  Ask me about being volunteered to chaperone a camp out by one of my children only to find out the night before or about that time I was volunteered to make a special snack for the class but was told at 9 pm the night before.

Next up, how to survive the first few weeks of summer.  But let’s not think about that yet.
