FullSizeRender-8We talked with Stephen Rose founder of The Peach Truck who told us how Uber will deliver peaches this summer, how a baby changes everything and how The Peach Truck is going nationwide. The Peach Truck delivers Pearson Farm’s (Georgia) peaches to Nashville and the Midwest each summer.

1

So, we thought Uber was about giving people a ride not delivering peaches. Tell me how the Uber delivery came about?
We’re big fans of Uber. Use the service all the time. I even drove for Uber last offseason. We’ve long wanted to be able to deliver peaches to folks’ doorsteps, but the infrastructure wasn’t there. We just thought, hey, Uber has the cars, let’s partner with them! It’s been a fantastic partnership.

2

Speaking of Uber, do offer shipping for your peaches?.
We do! It’s called Farm to Porch and it’s available Nationwide. There’s not a better gift than sending someone you love peaches to their doorstep. thepeachtruck.com has all that info.

We see The Peach Truck has a new little peach on board, how has having a baby changed your life?
The baby has, as they say, changed everything. Her name is Florence and she’s opened our eyes to a brand new world. We are loving being parents, and it’s been a blast to watch her enjoy her first peach season.

Tell us the different varieties of peaches we can expect over the course of the season?
The farm grows 40 different varieties of peaches, and it’s always interesting to taste the nuances of each one. The weather impacts each variety differently each season, so each year is unique. Starting in mid-June we’ll have our Freestone varieties, which are always a favorite. But as Al Pearson always says, the best peach is the one you have in your hand.

What makes The Peach Truck peaches taste so good?
First things first, Pearson Farm goes to levels no other farm does to make sure the right peach is being picked. If it means that we go a few days without peaches, that’s what it’s going to be over picking a peach early. Secondly, climate is everything. There aren’t many places that give you a good, cold winter and a hot, muggy summer. Fort Valley, GA does just that. It’s the perfect peach growing climate. The third aspect is the freshness. We bring peaches to Nashville hours after they were picked, so they haven’t been sitting in refrigeration for weeks and weeks like what you find at the grocery store.

Thanks so much to Stephen Rose from The Peach Truck for talking with us. They have some more exciting news—they’ve expanded the Freestone Peach Tour to 108 stops, up 35 from last year.  Now you can find The Peach Truck  in Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana this summer bringing Freestone Peaches by the box. Also, The Peach Truck is headed to New York!  They’ve  partnered with folks in Brookyln and Manhattan to bring these Fresh Georgia Peaches to the folks of New York City. That’ll be happening the weekend of July 17.  To find out more about The Peach Truck and where to purchase their peaches, visit The Peach Truck.
